When I was a kid I had the worst ear infections ever. I can remember waking up in the middle of the night to the painful stinging an ear infection provides. My mama would come in with a little bottle of oil,and what I used to call a “bean bag sock”. She would drop a few drops of oil into my ear and give me the warm “bean bag sock” to place on it. It worked like a charm.
Once I grew up I later found out the secret to the oil, and the “bean bag” sock, and I’m here to share that with you. Trust me it works! It’s also very easy to make.
What you will need
- olive oil(whatever brand you have)
- organic garlic cloves(fresh not frozen)
- corse sea salt
- white cotton sock
- lavender or camomile essential oil(optional)
Add 1 tbs of olive oil to a small sauce pan. Peel and smash one clove of garlic. Make sure that the garlic stays intact. Add the garlic to the pan.
Put stove on medium heat. You do not want to over heat the oil. Allow the oil to pool in the corner like the image above. Let the oil heat until the garlic starts to bubble. It will look like this.
Once garlic starts to bubble remove the pan from the heat and pour oil into a small glass container(I just use a small ramekin). Let Set until warm. Add two drops into affected ear twice a day for 3-4 days. Be sure to test the oil on inner wrist before putting into ear.
I am not a dr. Use your best judgement. Consult with your dr to confirm ear infections severity. DO NOT ADD ANYTHING TO THE INNER EAR IF THE EAR DRUM IS NOT INTACT.
Now that that’s out of the way here is how you make the “bean bag sock”. There are no beans in this sock .It only contains sea salt and/or essential oils.
Take a white sock ( all white is preferred) I had grey on my sock in the photo above because that was what I had on hand. If that’s all you have, use it. DO NOT USE A SOLID COLORED SOCK. Add about one cup of course sea salt to the sock. Add 1-2 drops of lavender or chamomile oil inside with the salt. Shake it up to mix it together.Tie it up. Place in microwave. Heat in 15-30 second intervals. This depends on how high your microwave voltage is. Mine is 900 so I use 30seconds. I do that twice before it’s hot enough. When the sock is Warm enough remove it and place over the ear for a nice soothing effect.
Thats it. 🙂
